About Thai Basil

Thai basil has purple stems and a distinctive anise-sweet aroma. It is sturdier and more heat-tolerant than Italian basil, so it can go into a hot wok or curry without turning black immediately.

Ways to use it

  • Thai stir-fries, such as drunken noodles
  • Curries and noodle soups, added at the end
  • Fresh, torn over salads and rice

Choosing, storing and preparing

Add it in the last minute of cooking to keep its aroma. Use fresh leaves rather than the stem, which is tough.

Storage: Wrap loosely and refrigerate at 2-4°C; use within a few days for best aroma.
